Stop 5: Kazakhstan, Central Asia
Kazakhstan, Asia, Dr, Spencer Wells' fifth stop, is still one of the most isolated places. While there is a marker leading Wells from Africa to Australia and India, there is also an ancient marker, (much more common), that can be found in Europe, Russia, Central Asia, North America and South America. While in Kazakhstan, Wells collected over 2,000 blood samples in the hopes of finding a single man, Nyazov. Nyazov's blood is extremely interesting, because it has a direct line back to the ancestors 40,000 years ago, who were some of the first Asians, which led to a diversity of looks, which became Europeans and Native Americans.
