What is the Genographic Project?
The Genographic project is an anonymous, nonmedical and nonprofit project launched by Dr. Spencer Wells in 2005. Its purpose is to study and trace the DNA of individuals and groups all over the world, in order to find how humans migrated and populated the entire Earth. Dr. Spencer Wells is trying to uncover many mysteries on his journey, but his main one, How did it all start? The Genographic project is built on three main goals; one, to analyze data and to collaborate with indigenous peoples. Two, to encourage the public to participate and learn about their own roots and ancestry. Three, use funds to support scientific research and community-led conservation and revitalization. Using the research they find, the Project hopes to continue studying genetic orgins, the diversity of humanity, and uncovering the still hidden secrets within their DNA.
