Stop 2: Lake Mungo, South Wales, Australia
Lake Mungo, in South Wales, Australia, was Dr. Spencer Wells' second stop. Lake Mungo, was the next place that there was evidence of humans after Africa, this is the home of the Mungo people. Lake Mungo was once a very rich place to live where there would have been substantial resources, although now it seems to be nothing more than a dry desert. But, the main question Spencer Wells was trying to answer; How did the ancient people get from Africa to Australia? Due to the rising sea levels as a result of the ice age, there is no evidence to suggest that they traveled by foot, although the most logical route would have been along the coastline. It also seems impossibel that they would have traveled by water because of the extremely long journey. In fact, the Mungo people doubt that they came from Africa at all, and choose to believe everything began there. However, there is substantial evidence to disprove this; humans are the only primate to inhabit Australia, which means they must have come from somewhere else. Also, there are inherited markers in the blood if the Aborigines that come from Africa, while there are no markers from Australia in the blood of the people in Africa.
